My name is Radoslaw Janicki, but everybody calls me Radek. I was born in 1970 in the biggest city of southeastern Poland – Lublin. It is inhabited by close to 380 000 people, increasing during academic year when students come to the city. After primary school I attended a technical high school ZSE. Very quickly I found that this school was not something for me, but I liked to assemble some electronic equipment by myself so I did not quit. I managed to graduate in regular time, i.e. five years. Graduation also marked the end of my technical education because I decided to pass the exams to become a geographer. I chose to study at one of five universities in Lublin - University of Maria Curie–Sklodowska (UMCS). My specialization is in environmental science. I have written masteral thesis about anthropogenic changes in the Wieprz River valley. It is the main river of Roztocze Hills.
After graduation I became at first an technical assistant (1995) in Department of Environmental Protection ZOS at the Earth Sciences Institute UMCS. Then I was promoted to teaching assisant (2004) and eventually to adiunct after finalizing my doctorate in 2005. It was about changes within landscape and landuse caused by depopulation which occured in Przemyslkie Foothills Landscape Park. In 2006 I moved to Jakarta, Indonesia where I am working as a GIS consultant and a teacher in the middle school of BINUS International School Simprug.
I have several hobbies. I love to travel, meet new people, see new sceneries, eat exotic food and learn new cultures. I don't like cities too much, prefer nature, especially mountains. All together I visited over 40 countries in 5 continents. I like trekking and also riding my mountain bike. So far my longest bike trips took place in summer 2006 when, I biked through East Europe and in 2007 when I went to Indonesian Province called Nusa Tenggara.
Reason why I like to go outdoors is that I enjoy photography a lot. I am a member of Lublin's Division of Union of Polish Wildlife Photograpers since 1997. I have been able to publish hundreds of photographs in books, magazines, calendars, postcards and so on. From 1998 up to present I had five solo exhibits and several group shows. The biggest event was in Indonesian National Gallery, where I presented exhibition called "Worlds Apart" and diaporamas to the international crowd of VIPs based in Jakarta. Some of my pictures are shown in internet-based exhibition called "Polar Sights". Even though I very rarely take part in competitions, I tried lately with some success. My picture taken in north Sweden took third place in the "landscape" category for a Picture of a Year 2003. This competition was held by International Federation of Wildlife Photographers
My third hobby is making models of war vehicles. When weather is not letting me to go out, I would stay home and produce some plastic weapon. I also enjoy designing. Even though I have no education in this field I really enjoy it, therefore I created some websites, folders, booklets and name cards, etc.
